The City of Sheboygan has been recognized for its promotion of volunteer work.
At this week’s Common Council meeting, the City was officially designated as a JustServe City “for its dedication to promoting and encouraging volunteerism throughout the community.”
On what this distinction means, Anjenette Pond, Sheboygan’s JustServe regional representative, said proudly, “This award represents something far greater than a single individual or organization. It celebrates a community that understands the power of serving one another.”
At that same Council meeting, Pond herself was given the Bridge Builder Award for designing the Sheboygan County Food Bank’s Food for Thought for Kids program, which provides local students with meals over the weekends, ensuring they do not go hungry when not in school.
The program also recruits area high school students to pack the take-home bags and deliver them to the respective schools.
A point Wisconsin JustServe specialist Melodie Lefevre highlighted when presenting Pond with the award by saying, “Now, these people that she is serving will have the desire to serve others too.”
