The Two Rivers Police Department has released the name of the person found in Seagull Marina over the weekend.
16-year-old Payton Vertz of Two Rivers was positively identified with the family’s permission.
Police Chief Ben Meinnert says the police department extends its deepest condolences to the family and all those affected by the tragic loss.
An official GoFundMe page has been set up to support Payton’s family.
It explains that during this heartbreaking time, the fundraiser is meant to help ease some of the financial burden the Vertz family is carrying. Funds will go directly to funeral costs and other expenses.
The page’s organizer says Payton’s loss has “deeply impacted not only his family, but also friends and the wider community who are mourning a life taken far too soon.”
Meinnert adds that information is circulating on various platforms and people want to know more about what happened to Payton.
But the police chief calls the investigation dynamic and ongoing, and they don’t want to jeopardize it by sharing information.
As the investigation continues, Meinnert asks that the family’s privacy be respected during this difficult time.
