The Two Rivers Police Department has revealed more information about a body discovered in some water over the weekend.
Officers were called to the south side harbor near Seagull Marina on Friday, October 16th.
There was no identifying information released regarding the body, which was recovered by the Two Rivers Police and Fire Departments and turned over to the Manitowoc County Coroner’s Office.
Two Rivers Police Chief Benjamin Meinert tells SeehaferNews.com that the investigation into the case spans multiple jurisdictions, and that the State Crime Lab and Division of Criminal Investigations have been assisting.
One person was arrested on Friday, and another was already in custody for a separate, unrelated case was also determined to be connected.
Both are being held in custody in conjunction with the ongoing investigation.
The case is believed to be an isolated incident and that the public is not in any additional danger.
The investigation resulted in the temporary closure of Zander Park and the Ice Age Trail.
Chief Meinert added, “With the complexity of this investigation, we did not want to cause undue fear or draw people to areas of the investigation. We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation, especially your understanding that the integrity of the investigation is of utmost importance.”
He also warned of some potentially fraudulent GoFundMe pages that have been set up.
Chief Meinert warned the public that “anyone can create these pages with the potential to defraud others. We would like to remind everyone that we remain the sole source of factual information in this investigation and will release more information and updates when they are available to share.”
He closed his statement saying, “Due to the ongoing investigation, additional details regarding the circumstances of the death, the identity of the deceased, and the identity of the suspects will not be released at this time. We want the public to understand that an investigation of this magnitude takes time. We will provide additional details when they become available.”
