The trial of Timothy Hauschultz gets back underway this morning. Day 6 of the trial will begin around 8:30 a.m. in Branch 1.
Hauschultz is charged with neglecting a child; the consequence is death after his 7-year-old great-nephew Ethan Hauschultz died in 2018 at Timothy’s home in the Town of Newton.
Manitowoc County prosecutors allege that the 55-year-old is responsible for issuing the punishments that led to Ethan’s death, while the defense says Ethan died “tragically” at the hands of his cousin Damian Hauschultz.
Prosecutors brought Damian to the stand last week to testify along with Ethan’s twin brother and older sister.
They also heard from a Wisconsin Department of Justice Special Agent and the Chief Medical Examiner from the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Department about Ethan’s autopsy.
Prosecutors are expected to call more witnesses today before the defense can start presenting their case to jurors later this week.
During the week, multiple witnesses, including Ethan’s siblings, testified that Damian hit and poked the 7-year-old multiple times before snow was piled on top of his body when he stopped carrying wood as a punishment for not knowing Bible verses.
Prosecutors say Ethan was taken to a hospital by Timothy and his wife Tina before he died from hypothermia and blunt force trauma.
