The sister of Ethan Hauschultz and his twin brother took the stand during day five of the trial of Timothy Hauschultz.
Before her testimony, the defense asked the court to not allow another witness to testify claiming the person wouldn’t provide any new information that isn’t already known.
Calumet County Judge Carey Reed decided to look at the 50 pages of records before the trial continued to decide if the witnesses should testify, which he allowed.
Manitowoc County Assistant District Attorney Jill Vendetti questioned Ethan’s sister, whose name we are now allowed to disclose because of a court order.
She testified that Timothy’s home had many rules, including never to lie and for the children to learn their Bible verses.
Ethan’s sister also said she saw Ethan and his brother carrying wood on the day Ethan died, after Timothy would pick the logs for them.
She said she saw Damian throw Ethan and his twin brother into a puddle after they dropped the logs they were carrying.
She testified that Damian asked her to get some snow before Ethan would be buried with it.
The defense asked Ethan’s sister about other punishments used at Timothy’s home, like being grounded.
Milwaukee County Chief Medical Examiner Wieslawa Tlomak was the next witness called to the stand.
She did Ethan’s autopsy and told jurors that Ethan’s death was due to hypothermia with signs of blunt force trauma.
Manitowoc County District Attorney Jacalyn LaBre also entered into evidence a document that showed what Tlomik said were abrasions and contusions on Ethan’s body.
During testimony, Tlomik explained that because he’s a child, he was losing heat quicker while he was in the snow and because his clothing was wet.
She will be cross-examined later this afternoon.
Timothy is charged with neglecting a child; the consequence is death after Ethan died at a hospital.
Damian is serving a 20-year prison sentence for the 7-year-old’s death.
