The Manitowoc County’s Sheriff is providing more information on bringing a new school resource officer (SRO) to a local district.
Sheriff Dan Hartwig explained on WOMT’s Be My Guest program Monday that their 2026 budget has funding for the SRO to go to the Reedsville School District.
The last time there was an SRO through the sheriff’s office was back in 2004.
“(At) that time we had one in Valders, had one in Reedsville, and had one in Mishicot,” he explained. “So, it’s been 22 years since we’ve had a school resource officer.”
Hartwig added that the Brillion School District had previously provided an SRO to Reedsville, but financial challenges stopped that from continuing.
The county sheriff says he likes the idea.
“I think partnerships with school districts, intergovernmental agencies is a great thing,” he explained. “Increasing, enhancing partnerships.”
The school resource officer would work four days a week in Reedsville and return for one day a week to support county court services.
The deputy would then work as a patrol officer during the summer.
The only school districts in the county that have a school resource officer right now are Manitowoc and Two Rivers.
