A Hilbert man is heading to federal prison for defrauding American taxpayers.
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Wisconsin has announced that 62-year-old Edward Kuhn has been sentenced to 13 months behind bars after being found guilty of repeated failure to pay the payroll taxes he collected, and the other taxes owed to the IRS.
This is said to have happened between 2020 and 2023 when he was the owner and operator of Kuhn Salvage and Demolition in Stockbridge.
The Internal Revenue Service and its criminal investigation division discovered that Kuhn withheld nearly $195,000 from employees’ paychecks and did not turn that money over to the Internal Revenue Service.
Additionally, he also failed to pay $868,175.95 in taxes he owed to the IRS as well.
On his sentencing, First Assistant U.S. Attorney Brad Schimel stated, “This defendant stole from his own employees, but also from every honest taxpayer. Anyone who does so should expect to go to prison.”
