Lakeland University has received a significant donation from a former student.
The university has announced it has received a $1 million donation from the estate of 1966 graduate Ronald Scheele following his 2024 passing.
Upon graduation, Scheele established himself as an accomplished educator and scientist in the field of medical physics.
In the spirit of his work, half of the funds will establish the Ronald Scheele Memorial Scholarship awarded to students pursuing a degree in basic sciences who demonstrate financial need and maintain the required grade point average.
Meanwhile, the other half will help create a science and healthcare innovation program growth fund at Lakeland.
On the donation, Lakeland President Beth Borgen said with gratitude, “It is a fitting tribute to Ron and his legacy as an educator, researcher, and scientist. He is creating pathways for a new generation of Lakeland students to create their own legacies in the sciences and healthcare field.”
