A man has been arrested after a Plymouth Police Department investigation into an animal neglect case.
Deputy Police Chief Matthew Starker says five cats were found living in deplorable conditions in an apartment in the 400 block of Appleton Street. When officers arrived, they found an extensive accumulation of feces and urine, along with fleas and other insects throughout the living space.
The area was so bad that officers needed specialized equipment like a breathing apparatus and full-body protective clothing before they entered.
All five cats were rescued from the apartment and taken to the Sheboygan County Humane Society for additional care.
A 33-year-old man, whose name was not provided, was then arrested on 25 charges, including negligently treating animals and negligently failing to provide food, water, ventilation, and sanitation.
Starker says the Plymouth Police Department takes allegations of animal neglect seriously because “animals depend on their owners and caregivers to provide necessities. When those responsibilities are neglected, the consequences can place animals at serious risk.”
