The runner who died during the Milwaukee half marathon has been identified by his family.
36-year-old John Meise of Sheboygan was reported to be running the race when he suddenly collapsed.
A fellow runner attempted to help while EMTs responded to the scene, but Meise could not be revived.
A GoFundMe page has been started by his sister-in-law for the family to help cover funeral and memorial expenses, provide support for the family’s immediate and ongoing needs, and help care for John’s four children as they move forward without their father.
Maise was said to be a loving man who “had a way of making people feel welcomed, valued, and cared for, and his presence made a difference in the lives of so many.”
