The Valders volleyball team celebrated their seniors at the last home game of the season last week.
The Vikings played against the Chilton Tigers, and although the score was 0-3, the night ended by honoring the team’s three senior players.
Addison Schmidt is the team captain and setter.
In her senior season, Schmidt had 27 aces, 80 digs, 77 sets, and 243 assists.
Despite these impressive stats, Schmidt says that what matters most about the sport is more than what happens on the court.
“We’re just one big family,” she told SeehaferNews.com. “The support is always there, the laughs before games, it’s just like a big family. I love it.”
Mariah McCulley is also a senior on the team, and she serves as the team’s libero.
For her senior year, McCulley had 4 kills, 29 aces, 277 digs, 3 assists, and 447 service receptions.
McCulley said her favorite part of playing high school volleyball is “definitely all my teammates, and not the volleyball aspect of it with them, but everything else that we get to do.”
Brooke O’Connor is the final senior on the volleyball team.
She plays as a right side hitter, and this year has had 20 aces, 9 blocks, 60 digs, 1 assist, and 64 service receptions.
While it’s hard to pick the best part of being on the team, O’Connor says being on court on game day is an unmatched feeling, specifically, “The energy and being around all my friends and making new friends.”
Each girl was gifted with balloons, flowers, and other gifts, along with a speech made by one of their teammates.
The Vikings have two more regular season games on the docket, road matchups against Sheboygan Falls tomorrow and Oostburg on Thursday.
