Both candidates running for the 9th District State Senate seat have explained why they believe they are the best person to fill the open seat.
In the final Seehafernews.com debate, Republican Amy Binsfeld and Independent Christian Ellis debated on topics of data centers, education, and how far marijuana legalization should go in the State of Wisconsin.
Ellis said he graduated from Oostburg High School before joining the U.S. Military.
He then got married, had four children, and is a business owner.
He explained that he’s running as an independent because residents should have a state senator focused on the people, not one political party.
“I’ve spent this campaign listening to teachers, farmers, healthcare workers, business owners, local officials, and families,” he explained. “Most people are asking government to solve every problem. They are asking it to be honest, responsible, and actually focused on problems it can actually solve. That’s what I’m trying to offer.”
Binsfeld is running for the state senate seat after she lost in the newly redrawn 26th Assembly District in 2024.
She told listeners she feels her work in Madison is not yet done, and she wants to make sure that state government doesn’t get too big.
“Let the power of the people be,” she explained. “When it comes to government, I feel that local government should have the most strength and state government is there to oversee some things. But again, the locals know best when it comes to what’s best in their smaller communities.”
