Milwaukee renters in the Uptown neighborhood now have direct access to city property inspections without having to file formal landlord complaints.
Mayor Cavalier Johnson signed legislation yesterday launching a pilot program that lets city inspectors check rental units whenever a tenant grants permission.
The targeted area was chosen because nearly 60 percent of its rental properties generated tenant complaints over the past three years.
City leaders say the initiative will focus on tackling habitual code violations, especially in buildings owned by out-of-town landlords.
