A Manitowoc fitness center is celebrating one year in business with a new facility.
Cheryl Quintina opened up Final Round Kickboxing in 2025 as the culmination of her fitness journey.
She tells SeehaferNews.com that she can pinpoint exactly when she realized she didn’t like the way she looked and felt.
“(It was) 2018,” she recalled. “I was overweight, my pants were ripping at the seams, I didn’t understand food, I was rolling off the couch, and I just said that I needed a change.”
That is when she got in touch with Lorenzo Fredenberg, a personal trainer at the Manitowoc Two Rivers YMCA, and started to put in the work.
“Watching my body change, watching my confidence change, it completely transformed my life,” she explained.
So, over the next six years, Cheryl continued to work out and get her degree in Nutrition, all while being a single mother and working at FIRE Fitness, alongside her first personal trainer, Lorenzo.
Then, in 2025, she decided it was time to venture out on her own and start Final Round Kickboxing.
“For me, growing up, I have always watched those eighties martial arts movies,” she said with a chuckle. “During that monologue of them preparing for that big fight, you know, it always made me want to do that, but I never had the knowledge, the guidance, and now I finally do. And now I want to be able to help people that want that same experience.”
On top of being a great way to get in shape, Cheryl noted that kickboxing is also a great stress reliever.
“Sometimes people come in and are like, ‘Are we punching stuff today?’” Quintana said. “And depending on my answer, they are really happy.”
But she also noted that it’s not all about punching and kicking, as their workout routine is broken up “between kickboxing, strength, conditioning, targeting our upper body and lower body, and some days, our full body.”
Final Round was located on the second floor of the building at 1010 Washington Street in Manitowoc, but now, after the closure of Before and After, they are down on the first floor.
While a lot of work went into transforming the space, Cheryl says they were able to incorporate the move into their workout routine.
“Towards the end of moving, it became part of the workout, like, ‘all right, grab a set of dumbbells. You’re walking down the stairs with them,’” she explained.
But at the end of the day, Cheryl says the move has been an absolute blessing, especially “having the bigger space and being able to do more things…the window display alone is a huge marketing asset. Otherwise, we were upstairs hidden in an attic.”
While the focus is on kickboxing, Cheryl says that Final Round is not a competitive kickboxing gym, but rather a “place where everyday people come to get a great workout, build confidence, relieve stress, feel good about themselves, and, of course, punch stuff!”
They also offer classes for adults as well as youths, with a goal of making fitness fun, challenging, and welcoming for everyone.
