
A University of Wisconsin-Madison professor was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics.
Francis Halzen was honored for his understanding of the astrophysical particles known as neutrinos, which are produced by the universe’s most energetic events.
He was named the recipient of the award at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Stockholm, Sweden.
Halzen is the sixth physicist tied to UW-Madison to receive the Nobel Prize.
The award also marks the 23rd Nobel Prize overall connected to UW-Madison.
