The Milwaukee Police Department plans to renew its contract for license-plate reading Flock cameras when it expires early next year.
Police officials noted, in an email reported by the Journal Sentinel, the public safety benefits and strict oversight policies as reasons to keep the technology.
The move comes despite vocal pushback from residents at a recent public budget hearing who urged the city to drop the contract.
However, the renewal could face resistance on the city council, where proposed legislation aims to require committee approval for license-plate reader systems.
