*Correction: We previously reported that Behnke will spend 13 years in prison. We’ve been informed by the Manitowoc County Clerk of Courts Office that it’s 10 years on concurrent sentences.
A Manitowoc man will spend some time behind bars for a hit-and-run that injured a motorcyclist.
37-year-old Steven Behnke was sentenced by Judge Jerilyn Dietz to *10 years in prison after he was convicted on charges of hit-and-run involving great bodily harm, knowingly operating a vehicle with a revoked license, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and resisting or obstructing an officer.
After his time behind bars, he will spend nine years on extended supervision.
As part of his probation, Behnke is not allowed to operate a motor vehicle, cannot enter a business whose primary purpose is to sell alcohol, and is eligible for the Substance Abuse Program.
Back in May last year, Manitowoc Police were called to the area of South 10th and Washington Streets after a vehicle, being driven by the 37-year-old, struck a motorcyclist.
Police found out the vehicle was being driven by Behnke because a piece with the vehicle’s VIN number was found at the scene.
When officers called Behnke, he claimed he was in Sheboygan, but in reality, his vehicle was taken to a local collision repair shop.
