A carbon monoxide leak in Fond du Lac County left numerous children and two adults in the hospital.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office received a report from a homeowner at W847 County Road B stating there were multiple people displaying signs of carbon monoxide poisoning just after 2:00 Wednesday morning.
The Eden Fire Department and Campbellsport Ambulance joined a sheriff’s deputy on the call, where they learned nine people were experiencing extreme symptoms, so Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue and Mount Calvary Ambulance were called to assist in transporting patients.
In total, seven children, ages 4, 7, 9, 12, 14, 16, and 17, a 46-year-old man, and a 42-year-old woman were transported by ambulance to local hospitals.
It was later determined that a boiler unit in the home was malfunctioning, and the homeowner had been attempting to repair it.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office is reminding residents to “check their smoke and CO2 detectors to ensure they’re working as we enter the colder months of the year.”
