A downtown Manitowoc road project is getting some state funding.
The Wisconsin DOT and Governor Tony Evers announced $370 million in financial support for 195 projects throughout the state, including the complete reconstruction of North 8th Street from Park Street to Waldo Boulevard.
Mayor Justin Nickels noted that the project was already on the books as part of the City’s 5-year plan, but with the state covering the entire project, “We can redirect those local dollars to other important improvements across the community.”
The project is on the docket for 2029, and Mayor Nickels calls it “A big win for Manitowoc taxpayers and for our continued infrastructure progress!”
This is the second project the state is funding in the City by the end of the decade.
The reconstruction of Washington Street is on the books for 2030 and will span from South 26th Street all the way downtown to South 8th Street at a cost of between $14 and $15 million.
