A Francis Creek man facing state and federal charges had a mistrial declared in one of the cases.
76-year-old Michael Kornely is facing federal charges for attempting to transport minors across state lines to engage in criminal activity and recently began his trial.
However, FOX11 reports that after four days, evidence was introduced which the defense did not have proper time to prepare for.
For this reason, a mistrial was declared, and a new one was set for November 12th.
This is just one month ahead of his Manitowoc County trial for charges of 2nd Degree Sexual Assault of an Intoxicated Victim and 3rd Degree Sexual Assault. Kornely’s pre-trial conference in the Manitowoc County case is set for November 13th, and it is unclear if that will be changed to accommodate the start of his federal trial.
Kornely also had charges of Attempted 2nd Degree Sexual Assault of a Child, Using a Computer to Facilitate a Child Sex Crime, and Causing a Child to View Sexual Activity dismissed in Manitowoc County in favor of the federal case.
