A brief police chase has landed one individual in jail in Manitowoc County.
33-year-old Ivan Portillo-Lopez was given a $500 cash bail by Court Commissioner Jewel Scharenbroch yesterday (September 28th).
This comes as Portillo-Lopez has been charged with one felony count of Fleeing or Eluding an Officer linked to a recent incident involving law enforcement.
The 33-year-old is alleged to have been traveling 13 MPH above the speed limit in a 25 MPH zone, prompting an officer to attempt a traffic stop.
However, according to Assistant District Attorney Kevin Lassiter, Portillo-Lopez continued driving at a high rate of speed.
Then, with multiple police cruisers tailing him, he is accused of turning into the parking lot of a local business, exiting, and passing a bystander’s vehicle in a no-passing zone, all while reaching speeds of over 50 MPH on a 35 MPH road.
Eventually, the pursuit was called off due to the danger it was causing to the public at large.
It is unclear how or when Portillo-Lopez was taken into custody for the incident.
He will now return to court on Monday (October 5th) for his initial appearance in Branch 3.
