A Fond du Lac man has been sentenced for illegally voting as a felon in the 2020 election.
Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney said Judge Laura Lavey found 45-year-old Anthony J. Van Egtern guilty on a no-contest plea to election fraud on Thursday.
He will spend 30 days in the Fond du Lac County Jail.
The Wisconsin Elections Commission charged Van Egtern after an investigation in September 2021.
Law enforcement confronted the 45-year-old after it was found that he had been convicted of a felony in Ozaukee County for possessing THC and drug paraphernalia.
After showing Van Egtern the poll book from the November 2020 election, he admitted to voting that day, saying it was important because the country was “going to hell.”
DA Toney says he hopes the jail sentence for the 45-year-old will deter those who violate the integrity of the electoral process.
