An ordinance on data center development in Manitowoc County is close to completion.
County Executive Tyler Martell explained last week on WOMT’s Be My Guest program that a draft ordinance will be ready for the county’s Planning and Parks Commission at the end of the month.
Once the commission receives the ordinance, Martell recommends not acting on it right away.
“It will be public then so that way the community can marinate on it,” he explained. “Then they would have a series of discussion sessions where people can provide public input and express their concerns or what they like about the ordinance.”
This follows the county’s 18-month moratorium, implemented in April, on any data center development after farmers in three townships said they were asked whether they would sell land for the project.
Martell added that despite the moratorium, groups have still shown interest in putting one in the county.
An agenda has not been put out yet for the next county Planning and Parks Commission meeting.
