Oshkosh North High School was evacuated yesterday (September 23rd) after a student was found to be in possession of a weapon.
The school resource officer was informed at 9:20 a.m. by school staff that a student may be in possession of a weapon.
The officer located the 16-year-old student and confirmed that they did indeed have a handgun.
The officer then learned that another student was involved in a previous incident related to this as well.
The school was evacuated while a search was conducted, but the second student was not located.
Students were reunited with their parents at Oshkosh West High School, and no one was injured.
The Oshkosh Police Department said of the incident, “The safety of our students, staff, and community remains our highest priority. This is an excellent example of a student and their parent choosing to speak up. We continue to encourage students to report safety concerns. When they see something and say something, they give school staff and Officers the opportunity to act quickly and help prevent potentially tragic outcomes.”
