The Manitowoc area has lost one of its most beloved members.
Tom Drill, who was affectionately known as Mr. Manitowoc, passed away in Florida yesterday.
Drill was frequently seen for several decades cleaning up trash around civic activities, volunteering as a greeter at the Capitol Civic Center, and working for the Salvation Army to the extent that they labeled him a general and erected a temporary shelter that was placed at the corner of 8th and Washington Streets for the annual red kettle campaigns.
Manitowoc Mayor Justin Nickels posted on Facebook saying “Our Community has lost a true treasure. Tom exemplified the greatest qualities in all of us.
His kindness, his generosity, and his unwavering love for this community made him someone we could all aspire to be.”
