A Fond du Lac man has been convicted in a fatal overdose case.
Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney says Judge Larua Lavey sentenced 40-year-old Matthew J. Gruetzmacher to eight years in prison and 10 years on extended supervision for supplying fentanyl to someone.
A criminal complaint says Fond du Lac Police found the unnamed victim at an apartment on E. Arndt Street after they were called for a welfare check back in 2022.
Police then found a white powder that the victim appeared to have used. Gruetzmacher became a suspect in the case after text messages he was sending to the victim were found.
He would later admit to selling heroin and Vicodin to the victim.
A report from the Fond du Lac County Medical Examiner’s Office says that the victim died because of fentanyl toxicity.
DA Toney says fentanyl continues to have a devastating impact on families across Wisconsin, and his office will continue to “fight for justice on behalf of those families by taking dangerous drug dealers off our streets.”
