A local semi-pro football team is looking to help support a veteran-focused organization.
The Manitowoc County Mariners have announced that they’ve partnered with a Northern Lights Football League member, the Wisconsin Ravens, to play an exhibition game against each other on Saturday, November 7th at Rubick Field in Manitowoc.
Mariners President, Owner and Head Football Coach Marcos Alfaro says proceeds from the game will benefit Plymouth-based Dogs2Dogtags.
“It’s a non-profit organization that pairs a rescue dog with veterans with PTSD for free,” Alfaro explained. “They train them to help veterans cope with unique challenges in everyday life.”
Alfaro tells seehafernews.com that the idea came about via a request from Mariners defensive tackle and United States Marine veteran Brian Gottoski.
“Hopefully we can improve the life of several veterans,” he explained. “It’s hard for them sometimes to keep up with a small staff to keep up with the demand. This is where we come in. We’re going to help them out and hope that this is the beginning of a great relationship with them.”
As of October first, the Mariners are entering their 17th year of existence, something that Alfaro and the Mariners organization don’t take for granted.

Meanwhile, the Mariners have announced that for anyone interested in becoming a member of the team, they’ll be holding an open workout on Saturday, October 3rd from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Rubick Field in Manitowoc.
Players are asked to furnish their own workout gear and helmets.
