A local food bank needs help keeping students well fed over the weekends.
The Sheboygan County Food Bank has announced it is seeking volunteers for the Food for Thought for Kids program.
As the school year gets into full swing, the Food for Thought program provides students in need with nutritious meals to take home over the weekend when not in school.
Volunteers are responsible for gathering and packing each individual bag that ensures local children don’t go hungry over the weekends.
Current volunteers include retired members of the community, students working to fill their service hour requirements, and those just looking to help out the Food Bank.
On the importance of the program, the Food Bank noted, “It takes many helping hands to make this possible. Whether you’re looking to volunteer on your own, with coworkers, friends or another community group, you can help make sure kids have food they can count on each weekend.”
Last school year, Food for Thought for Kids provided just over 20,000 weekend food bags to students from 26 schools.
