For the second time this week, area law enforcement was involved in a swatting incident.
The Calumet County Sheriff’s Office was called to a home on Winding Trail Drive in the Village of Harrison just after 6:45 Tuesday evening on a reported emergency.
The caller reported that he had been stabbed in the chest and had shot his wife with a firearm, causing her death.
Deputies contacted the homeowner and determined there were no signs of a homicide, weapons-related incident, or other emergency at the residence.
Deputies also determined there is no ongoing threat to the public related to this incident.
This comes one day after the Oshkosh Police Department had a similar situation occur in the 2000 block of Menominee Drive.
Much like their Oshkosh Counterparts, the Calumet County Sheriff’s Office warned of the dangers of swatting, saying, “These incidents are inherently dangerous because responding personnel must treat reported emergencies as legitimate until they can safely determine otherwise. False emergency reports place members of the public and first responders at risk. They also divert critical law enforcement, fire, and EMS resources from legitimate calls for service within the community.”
