Two local schools earned top honors at the 2026 Roncalli Schmitt/Schneider Cross Country Invite, and another individual claimed gold in Shawano.
Starting with the boys, Manitowoc Lutheran finished on top with 34 points at the local meet, 22 better than runner-up Pulaski, and 46 fewer than Valders, which finished in 3rd.
Roncalli’s Elliott Onesti was the top individual performer as his 17:23.97 finish was 2.7 seconds faster than runner-up Grayden Gossen of Pulaski.
Manitowoc Lutheran’s Philip Melso was 3rd, while the rest of his teammates finished in the top 14.
Valders’ top runner was Kolten Shisel, who finished 6th.
As for the girls, Valders earned the top honors, with 46 points.
That was 12 better than Pulaski, 14 fewer than Two Rivers, and 35 better than Manitowoc Lutheran, which rounded out the top four.
Pulaski’s Maggie Gerth was far and away the fastest runner, finishing a minute and a half faster than Two Rivers’ Andi Gallagher, who was one of three Raiders in the top 5.
Paige Backus of Valders was 3rd while the rest of her teammates were in the top 24.
The Lancers also had three medal winners, paced by sophomore Temperance Farmer’s 8th place finish.
Meanwhile, Manitowoc Lincoln was in Shawano for the Steve Stomberg Invitational. The girls fared well, earning a 4th-place finish, with Norah Free earning Meet Champion honors with a time of 19:33.
Her teammate Ava Wetenkamp was also able to earn D1 Medaling honors with a 5th-place finish and a time of 20:14.
The boys finished 5th, behind a strong 5th-place finish by Reid Stryzewski.
