A local organization is honoring National Suicide Prevention Month with an event aimed at remembering those who lost their battle with suicide.
The Survivors of Suicide Loss-Manitowoc County will be in the parking lot of the Manitowoc/Two Rivers YMCA at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 20th, for the Take My Hand, Tomorrow Needs You Walk.
All are invited to this free event, which will allow those who have lost a loved one to suicide to write their name on a sign and honor their memory.
There will also be a bake sale, some giveaways, and basket raffles as well. For more information, visit the Survivors of Suicide Loss Manitowoc Facebook page.
While the suicide rate in Wisconsin has fluctuated over the years, the most recent statistics from Prevent Suicide Wisconsin show that 14.2 per 100,000 residents have died by suicide in the state since 2014.
Males account for nearly 80% of all suicides in Wisconsin, and an estimated one out of every five high school students have seriously considered it.
If you or someone you know is struggling or in crisis, call or text the National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988, or contact the Manitowoc County Human Services Crisis Line at 920-683-4230 during normal business hours.
