The John Michael Kohler Art Center is preparing to unveil a much-anticipated new exhibition.
The JMKAC has announced that “Robert Blackstone: Crystal City” will open in Sheboygan on October 12th.
Crystal City is a large-scale, found-object sculpture portraying a self-contained modern city.
The piece is built from found objects including electronics, such as turntables, glass, toys, family videos, and personal mementos.
On the piece, the JMKAC stated, “Originally conceived as an elegy for Blackstone’s grandmother, the project evolved into a reflection on social and economic injustice and a vision of a more interconnected city.”
With the exhibition’s move to the Arts Center, it marks the first time it will be shown outside of Dayton, Ohio, where Blackstone created it.
Outside of Crystal City, accompanying pieces by Blackstone will explore history, the passage of time, and the human condition as well.
