Alcohol is being deemed a contributing factor in a recent rollover crash in Appleton.
The Appleton Police Department reports that two young children were in the back seat of a car that had rolled over last weekend.
The vehicle came to rest on its roof in some shallow water in the ditch off of an unspecified highway.
Both children were said to be properly secured in their car seats and walked away uninjured.
However, after a visit to a local hospital, the driver was arrested on charges of Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated Causing Injury – 2nd Offense, with a Minor Child in the Vehicle, Operating While Revoked, Failure to Install Ignition Interlock Device, Possession of Open Intoxicants in a Motor Vehicle, and Violation of Child Safety Restraint.
Appleton Police noted, “The fact that no one was seriously injured or killed is a miracle. But it should not take a miracle to get everyone home safely. If you have been drinking, do not drive. Make a plan before you drink. Designate a sober driver, call a friend, use a rideshare service, or find another safe way home.”
This report was issued in the middle of the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign, which is designed to remind drivers of the dangers of impaired driving.
