The Sheboygan Police Department has given a few more details on the chase that resulted in a crash over the weekend.
It was revealed that officers were first called to the area of South 8th Street and Indiana Avenue at 5:45 Sunday evening on a report of a vehicle that had been revving its engine, causing backfires and excessive noise.
The 19-year-old driver fled when police arrived, eventually colliding with a second vehicle travelling east on Superior Avenue.
The 73-year-old driver of the second vehicle was treated for minor injuries, and the 19-year-old man was arrested on charges of Fleeing/Eluding Police and 2nd Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety.
His name has not yet been released, but it was noted he was also charged with Tire Squealing/Unnecessary Engine Acceleration, Operating A Motor Vehicle Without Insurance, Improper Right Turn, Unsafe Lane Deviation, Non-Registration of a Vehicle, Reckless Driving, Operating with a Suspended License, and three counts of Violating A Red Traffic Light.
Including the citations that the suspect received for this incident, the suspect has reportedly received a total of 33 traffic-related citations from the Sheboygan Police Department over the past 13 months.
The Sheboygan Police Department noted that they take “these violations seriously and will strictly enforce these behaviors when we witness them, or they are reported to us.”
