A company working with the Kiel Area School District says it will try to find a practical solution to the district’s building needs.
This comes after two referendums failed in 2024 and 2025 to either build a new school for the district or improve existing buildings.
Superintendent Brad Ebert says the district hired Nexus Solutions to figure out a plan to address the issues and “listen to those in our community and to consider reasonable ways to take care of the upgrades of our aging buildings.”
Nexus Vice President Kevin Hickman says they conducted interviews with 400 school district residents, who mostly rated the district highly for providing good or excellent education.
The group also interviewed teachers who praised buildings like Kiel’s performing arts centers but had concerns about an aging middle school, small-group learning areas, specialized instruction, and playground conditions.
Hickman says as discussions and plans are worked through, the work ahead will “bring together comprehensive facility assessments, information about the condition and expected useful life of major building systems, financial analysis, staff experiences, and community priorities.”
