A candidate running to become Wisconsin’s Attorney General made a stop in Manitowoc as the November election draws closer.
Eric Toney, current Fond du Lac County District Attorney, stopped at the Manitowoc Starbucks yesterday (August 18th) before speaking to local farmers about how he believes he can help them if he were elected.
This marks Toney’s second attempt at becoming Attorney General, as he lost in 2022 to the current AG and the man he’s aiming to unseat, Josh Kaul.
When asked about what he’s learned since that 2022 loss that better suits his chances at election, Toney instead listed a list of personal achievements.
“I’ve been focused as a District Attorney in Fond du Lac County and the president of our district attorneys association here in Wisconsin,” Toney noted. “And during that time, I was named the Wisconsin District Attorney of the Year and received an award as an unsung hero from the Wisconsin Law Journal for my work in the courtroom, as well as on the state budget in helping deliver significant public safety resources across Wisconsin for more funding.”
One specific measure that Toney stated he wanted to achieve if elected would be to focus on public safety.
“I’m going to do that by putting public safety over politics and following the law, even when I disagree,” Toney explained. “And that means I do what everyone else does. If I don’t like the law, then I work with the legislature and the Governor to change the law so that we can better reflect our values here in Wisconsin.”
Toney also believes that his work as Fond du Lac County District Attorney serves as a template for what voters can expect if he were to become Attorney General
“It’s a record of delivering results, keeping Fond du Lac County safe, keeping Wisconsin safe, and adding resources where we worked across the aisle with a Democratic Governor and a Republican legislature to get bipartisan public safety results. And that’s the leadership we need at our Department of Justice,” Toney told SeehaferNews.com.
Wisconsin voters will choose between Toney, the Republican-backed candidate, and AG Kaul, the Democrat-backed candidate, on election day, which is set for November 3rd.
