An 81-year-old man was rescued from the Bay of Green Bay yesterday after his sailboat capsized.
The Suamico Fire Department and Brown County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area, finding that the vessel had capsized about two miles offshore in approximately 15 feet of water.
The man was able to cling to the hull while rescuers rushed to him.
He was able to call for help using a cellphone, but the waves were making it difficult to stay afloat.
Rescue crews were able to get out to him in time and returned him to shore.
It is unclear if the man was wearing a life jacket, but the Suamico Fire Department is reminding boaters that they should be worn whenever you are on the water.
