A boat crash in Kewaunee claimed the life of an Appleton man yesterday morning.
The Kewaunee Police Department was called to the area of the Kewaunee Lighthouse Pier just after 4:30 a.m. on a report of a boating incident.
It was determined that an 81-year-old Appleton man was operating his 18-foot fishing boat when he slammed into the south side of the north breakwall.
He suffered fatal injuries and was thrown into the water.
His body was successfully recovered by the U.S. Coast Guard, while a 68-year-old passenger, also from Appleton, was evaluated at the scene by Kewaunee Rescue, but was released after it was determined he suffered only minor injuries.
The DNR is assisting with the investigation. Other agencies to assist at the scene included the Kewaunee County Sheriff’s Office, Kewaunee Fire Department, Kewaunee DPW, and the Kewaunee Marina.
