
The U.S. Coast Guard was called in to assist with a water rescue in Sheboygan County.
The Sheboygan County Communications Center received a call just before 6:45 Sunday morning regarding an unmanned vessel and a person in the water on Lake Michigan, approximately 2 miles east of Weeden Creek Road.
In the Town of Wilson. The caller had been able to get a throwable personal flotation device out to the 57-year-old man, but they were unable to get the victim out of the water.
The Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Coast Guard both responded to the scene and were able to successfully get the man out of the water.
His boat, however, was still traveling north, but it was intercepted by the Coast Guard.
The victim underwent a medical assessment at the Sheboygan Marina and was determined to be uninjured.
The incident was deemed accidental.
The Sheriff’s Office thanked the fishermen who located the victim, stating, “There is no doubt that without their quick-thinking actions, the situation would have had a different ending. This thank you also extends to the entire fishing and boating community who are always willing to help out and keep Lake Michigan a safe place to be.”
