Manitowoc County Sheriff Dan Hartwig
Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Department is continuing to ensure its deputies are as trained as possible.
Sheriff Dan Hartwig made an appearance on WOMT’s Be My Guest program, where he spoke about the importance of ongoing training for his deputies.
“It’s one thing I am very adamant on is leaders are readers and constant education,” Sheriff Hartwig explained. “Law enforcement is one of the careers that is, you’re constantly learning, things are constantly evolving, and things are constantly changing, and you need to keep up with those changes.”
Sheriff Hartwig was fortunate enough to get his officers spots in a couple of high-end training programs that are fully funded by the federal government.
The first program is called DUCA, which stands for Drug Unit Commanders Academy.
Manitowoc County’s Sheriff stated, “It goes over executive leadership, tactical and operational skills, wellness, and leadership is a big component of it. It’s a national academy, so it’s very, very unique, and not many people get to go to that.”
The second program is called DHSLA, Department of Homeland Security Leadership Academy.
Sheriff Harwig was able to attend this academy himself back in 2023, and he was extremely impressed.
Because of this, he is very happy that some of his officers get to go through it too.
“It’s kind of a mini FBI National Academy over two weeks where they bring in a lot of big instructors and get some really, really good speakers in there and some really great training. I’m excited for him to go to,” Sheriff Hartwig noted.
Our local police officers are extremely fortunate to get to attend these programs, and they will come back having the knowledge and skills to keep everyone in our community safe.
