The city clerk for the City of Green Bay has officially stepped down.
In a statement, the city says Celestine Jefferys made the decision to leave, and they wish her the best in her future endeavors.
This comes after scrutiny of duplicate absentee ballot incidents in which packets were mailed out ahead of this year’s April election and before this month’s election.
WBAY reports that Jefferies was placed on administrative leave following the incidents before the city identified to the Wisconsin Elections Commission that she reprinted ballot labels in both cases.
The WEC is investigating the incidents.
Green Bay Deputy Clerk Stacy Menke will serve as the interim city clerk while the search for a permanent one begins.
The Green Bay City Council will get an update on the city’s internal review of the duplicate ballot incidents at its August 18th meeting.
