The departure of Emanuel Wilson from the Green Bay Packers left an opening for a #2 back, and MarShawn Lloyd is ready to fill that role.
Lloyd was taken with the 88th overall pick in the 3rd round of the 2024 NFL draft, but he hasn’t had much of an opportunity to showcase what he can do at the NFL level.
To date, he has only seen the field in one game, carrying the ball six times for 15 yards. The rest of the past two seasons have been marred by injury.
This year seems to be his time to prove why he was scouted so highly by Packers staff, and he tells SeehaferNews.com he is feeling good.
“Everything feels good,” he said with a smile. “Now it’s just rest, recover, and get back to it tomorrow.”
During Sunday’s training camp session, Lloyd was taking reps as the #2 back, which saw him take handoffs from Jordan Love and get some reps with the full #1 offense.
While this seems to indicate that the staff is likely to showcase him relatively often this season, Lloyd says it’s too early to know for sure what his role will be.
“It depends on what they see and what they want,” he explained. “I do believe I can help the team, so if they are able to put me out there, whenever, I’m ready for it.”
We are still six weeks out from the Packers’ opener in Minnesota, but for Lloyd, he is just happy to be back out on the field and playing the game he loves.
“That’s the only way you get better…reps, reps, reps,” he noted. “It felt good to be out there for sure.”
The Packers have public training camp sessions today and tomorrow before hosting the ever-popular Family Day practice on Lambeau Field this Friday.
