The U.S. Coast Guard has been called to assist in the search for two missing kayakers in Door County.
The Washington Island Police, Fire, and Ambulance Departments were called to the area of Wickman Drive just before 6:50 Saturday evening on a report of two missing kayakers who had gone out without life jackets.
A water search and drone operations were immediately initiated, but the search was called off three hours later due to poor light conditions.
However, the U.S. Coast Guard continued the search into the night, taking a break at around 2:30 Sunday morning, and resuming at 7:00 a.m.
As of Sunday afternoon, numerous area agencies are continuing the search for the two 20-year-old kayakers.
The male is estimated to stand 5’ 11” tall and weighs 195 pounds with brown hair.
He was last known to be wearing khaki shorts.
His partner was a 5’ 1” tall, 95-pound female who also has brown hair and was possibly wearing a teal or red/pink swimsuit.
Washington Island Police Chief Gary Schultz noted, “Search operations will continue until further notice. More information will be released as it becomes available.”
