The Wisconsin DNR reminds residents that they can help by participating in a watch and a survey.
Operation Deer Watch and the state’s Game Bird Survey are designed to measure the reproductive status of deer and game birds by establishing ratios of adults to juveniles, helping assess the productivity of Wisconsin’s deer and game birds.
For Operation Deer Watch, the public has to report a location, age, sex, and number of deer seen from dusk to dawn during the summer months.
Bird watchers have to calculate the number of game birds they observe during the summer.
The deadline for the game bird survey is the end of August, while Operation Deer Watch ends at the end of September.
Wisconsin DNR Survey Coordinator Paul Frater says sightings can be easily submitted through the Survey123 app.
Each one “helps us better understand how wildlife are doing throughout the state.
The more data that is collected, the better our understanding of game species abundance and distribution in Wisconsin.
