Online shopping is a great way to get supplies fast and easy, but this is also where scammers strike.
The DATCP’s first tip is to be cautious of any ads or links sent in promotional emails or texts, even if they’re from a popular company.
Their second tip is to double-check the website’s URL before entering payment information to make sure you weren’t brought to a different site.
Their final tip is to make sure to use a credit card for extra protection against fraud. Another way scammers work is targeting college students, but DATCP has tips for that too.
First, only use well-known websites.
Next, pay attention to the small details, for example, spelling errors on their site or the URL changing.
Also, don’t buy something just because it says it’s a flash sale.’
Take a minute and think before purchasing.
Finally, if a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is.
