The United Way of Manitowoc County is asking people to walk again to help with a free literacy program.
The 2nd annual Dolly Walk fundraiser takes place next Saturday (August 8th) at the UW-Green Bay Manitowoc campus beginning at 9:00 a.m.
Registration for adult teams of four is $100, while each adult is $32.
It will cost $16 for children six or older, while children five and under will be able to walk for free.
Local United Way Executive Director Ashley Bender reminded everyone on WOMT’s Talk United Podcast that the walk supports the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, which provides books to children ages 0-5 at no cost.
If you can’t make it to the walk, Bender says the United Way has created a pledge card.
“Just contact our office, and we will get those to you,” she explained. “Either mail, email, or you can stop in and pick them up. Just let us know you’re coming.”
Attendees are also encouraged to dress up like Dolly herself.
Bender says you can also bring your furry friends, but she asks that if you do, to remember to be “respectful and make sure that the dog is on a leash,” and to follow “all the rules that the city has around having dogs in public spaces.”
