While the Green Bay Packers faithful are happy to see the green and gold back on the field, Center Sean Rhyan is especially happy to see all of the fans again.
Rhyan was in a contract year in 2025, and things looked a little dicey for the man entering his 4th year with the team.
One concern was the history of the organization with the center position.
Just one year prior, the Packers let go of Josh Meyers, who had been a leader in the o-line room, deciding instead to sign Guard Aaron Banks and moving right guard Elgton Jenkins to Center.
Then, they rotated Rhyan and second-year man Jordan Morgan at right guard to start the year.
That rotation left Rhyan a bit frustrated, especially when he didn’t see the field at all during one home game.
An injury to Jenkins moved Rhyan to the center spot nine weeks into the season, and rookie Anthony Belton took over his right guard spot.
Over the offseason, Rhyan did eventually sign a three-year deal worth $33 million, and he came back to Green Bay to find an o-line that seems to have a little more stability.
Morgan has moved over to left tackle in place of Rasheed Walker, who was released over the offseason, Banks has the left guard position secured, Rhyan has blossomed as a center, Belton performed very well at right guard, and Zach Tom is considered one of the best right tackles in the business.
We spoke with Rhyan about what was going through his mind waiting for that call from his agent.
“It was unreal,” he recalled. “Everything went quiet. I was listening to the number that they proposed and, you know…it was a good feeling.”
He was also very happy to see how well the unit is meshing early on in the preseason.
“Day one is never going to be perfect, but…I think it was a good first step,” he explained.
There are a few things they have to work on, but nothing to raise any concerns.
Rhyan specifically pointed to their “timing, not overthinking too many things, (and) just going out there and playing football and having fun.”
The Packers will be back on Ray Nitchke Field for day 3 of training camp this morning, and will take tomorrow off before getting back at it on Sunday.
