Electric rates in the City of Kiel could be going up.
Ehlers and Associates Financial Consultant Peter Curtin spoke to the city council about the second phase of the city’s electric rate study, which includes an 8.9% rate adjustment request to the Wisconsin Public Service Commission.
For the average customer using about 600 kilowatts per month, their bill would go up by at least $5.
The increase would help with temporary financing for the new utility building.
The city council voted 5-0 to move with the electric rate case.
Previously, City Administrator Ryan Pafford said the study is necessary to evaluate current electric rates in relation to operating expenses, capital investments, and long-term financial stability.
