A New London man is facing multiple charges related to the death of his mother.
Fire crews responded to the Franklin Park Apartments on Division Street on Sunday (July 26th) on a report of a unit on fire.
During the call, they located a woman dead inside apartment 510.
The fire investigators determined three separate fires had been set inside the apartment, and an autopsy revealed the woman had died prior to the fire due to multiple sharp force injuries to her neck.
Police scoured security camera footage, which revealed the woman’s son, 39-year-old Rodolfo Gonzalez, had been on the same floor as his mother’s apartment at the time the fires were set.
Gonzalez was located that evening sitting on a bench near an elementary school, and he was arrested.
He resisted, so Waupaca County Sheriff’s Deputies had to use a wrap restraint system and leg shackles to take him into custody.
Gonzalez faces charges of 1st Degree Intentional Homicide, 1st Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, Arson of a Building, Resisting or Obstructing an Officer, and Mutilating a Corpse, and was given a $1 million cash bail.
Gonzalez has several other open cases, which include charges such as Attempted 1st-Degree Intentional Homicide, Possession of Methamphetamine, 2nd-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, and Criminal Damage to Property, just to name a few.
