The Lakeland University community is mourning the loss of a longtime member of its faculty.
Lakeland has shared that Abdul “Abe” Qastin passed away earlier this month at the age of 86.
Qastin spent 36 years with the university, serving mainly as a business professor and administrator from 1981 until his retirement in 2017.
He also served as the Associate Dean of the William R. Kellett School of Adult Education from 1999 to 2008.
Qastin was born in Iraq before graduating first in his class from the University of Baghdad, earning him a scholarship to study in the United States, where he would eventually complete graduate studies at the University of Minnesota.
In remembering Qastin, Lakeland stated, “Known for his thoughtful approach to teaching and genuine care for students, Qastin was a trusted mentor both inside and outside the classroom…He was known for his wisdom, generosity, and lifelong passion for learning.”
